Beauty on Board: Tips for Frequent Travellers

SPEEDY SPA SPOILS

Cape Town’s Pepper Club’s Cayenne Spa – recently nominated as SA’s Best Hotel Spa in the 2016 World Spa Awards – is the inner-city sanctuary to spend time in this season. Book a Winter Warmer Early Bird special (R200) for the treatment of your choice (a quick mani or pedi, or a massage – back, neck and shoulders, or scalp, neck and shoulders). Available weekdays from 9am-12pm

FORWARD-THINKING FACIALS

The spa at Johannesburg’s iconic Four Seasons The Westcliff Hotel is the only one in SA to offer the Biologique Recherché of Paris range. One of our fave treatments by the brand is Seconde Peau (“Second Skin”). This skin overhaul is based on clinical technology, using a hyaluronic acid electrospun machine that acts like a 3D printer. What does this mean for skin? Medical-grade hyaluronic skin patches (designed to penetrate skin structures) form an anti-ageing mask that visibly lifts and accelerates skin renewal. Tel: +27 (0)11 481 6450.

If there’s one thing your skin needs this winter, it’s the BioEffect Cellular Treatment with Microdermabrasion and Ceya from Placecol. A deluxe anti-ageing facial, it’s ideal for tired, stressed skin. The deep exfoliation it provides is also great for those with pigmentation problems.

DOING IT, DUTY-FREE

Skin therapist Sonette Donker is the owner of Skin iD in Johannesburg. A frequent flyer, she hits Duty-Free for her travel beauty must-haves:

  • I have a fetish for lipbalm. I buy Clinique Superbalm Moisturising Gloss in a beautiful pack with a range of colours that’s exclusive to Duty-Free. I’m also mad about Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector. I like the duo pack with two different shades of nude.
  • I always buy my perfume at Duty-Free. I’ve priced my favourite fragrances (Dior Pure Poison and Dior Hypnotic Poison) at Duty-Free in Paris, but they’re more affordable at local airports.
  • A product I can’t seem to find in SA is a variant of Nivea Anti-perspirant, a creamy balm in a stick form that I bought in Dubai. Because of the heat there, I needed something that worked well and this anti-perspirant did the trick.

BEAUTY HOTSPOT

When next in Jozi, take a trip to Sandton City to experience the Yves Saint Laurent Beauté Boutique, the first on the continent. Prepare to be dazzled by the latest in cosmetics and fragrance from this luxury brand.
