Four South African travel bloggers share their favourite local breakfast spots.
The Garden Route
Totties Farm Kitchen Rheenendal
Rose Bilbrough @gotravelbug
I am a country girl and love old-fashioned hospitality combined with good food. Totties is located close to the Forest Edge of Goudveld Forest and offers a relaxed atmosphere and country charm. Enticing fresh meals are served in a setting of an old sawmill, packed with the history of wood cutters, traders and miners of the late 1800s. Not only is this an enchanting place to eat, but with every bite you can taste the deliciousness of home-styled cooking, filled with goodness and fresh ingredients.

I’m not a vegetarian, but I tend to order the mushrooms, walnuts and cream cheese served on toasted homemade bread. Also, be sure to leave space for the freshly baked scones or other treats after breakfast!

Craft Restaurant Parkhurst
Farirai Sanyika @gophari
Craft Restaurant is located on 4th Avenue in Parkhurst – a street with a laid-back, old-school vibe. The restaurant is decorated beautifully and is a cosy setting for a breakfast date.

I have a sweet tooth, so I love their sweet breakfast waffles. The Nutella & caramelised-banana option is delicious! I like to try a different waffle each time. I aim to bring some balance to this indulgent breakfast by ordering a fresh kiwi juice.
Cape Town
Dalebrook Café Kalk Bay
Kathryn Rossiter @becomingyou
One of my favourite Saturday morning rituals is to pop down to Kalk Bay for a dip in the sea at the Dalebrook tidal pool. Then follows a cup of coffee and a bite of breakfast overlooking the ocean – with the sand still between my toes! This lovely new local eatery is perfectly positioned in one of the most interesting neighbourhoods in Cape Town (named the coolest neighbourhood in the world by Forbes in 2018!) and the space and the food here are simple, uncomplicated and beautiful. Expect good food and good vibes.

The avocado smash breakfast served with salmon and poached eggs is too delish to miss!
Durban
Moto Café Umhlanga
Jane Killian @gijanefit
It is owner-run, and Lisa is very hands-on. This café has a great vibe and the food is always good! It is a little hidden gem at the back of Umhlanga in the Outlet Park.

I love the pulled-pork potato rösti! They also have vegetarian options – all so good! I always have a cappuccino as well. Or two.
