The beautiful, remote setting of Nkhata Bay will set the tone for this year’s Lake of Stars Festival in Malawi.
After celebrating its 15th anniversary last year the festival will take on a new format known as the Lake of Stars Discovery.
Located in Northern Malawi, Nkhata Bay sits on Lake Malawi and is home to the unique and imaginative venue for this year’s festival, Kachere Kastle.
This stunning lodge, which was built in the style of a Moroccan castle, is set on rolling white sands by the crystal-clear waters of the lake.
Lake of Stars’ Head of Media Zilanie Gondwe says this year festival goers will enjoy a unique and immersive adventure as Lake of Stars Discovery features a fascinating line up of music, talks, poetry, theatre, film, art and wellness activities, in a brand new setting.
Creating Memories
“We’re excited about the direction we’re taking Lake of Stars this year. Our new Discovery edition will offer a unique adventure for festival goers in an unparalleled, intimate setting,” explains Gondwe.
“Lake of Stars has always been about more than the big names. It’s about creating memories and shared experiences. Our vision is also about uncovering and promoting new artists alongside established talent. And in 2019 we’re amplifying this by shining a light on amazing rising stars in new music and art in Malawi, southern Africa and beyond,” Gondwe adds.
Malawi’s Festival Tourism Industry
The Lake of Stars Project has breathed new life into Malawi’s festival tourism industry with dozens of vibrant events now happening each contributing to the country’s economy and cultural scene.
The Lake of Stars Festival alone generates a staggering $1.6 million for Malawi’s economy each year by attracting international visitors to discover and explore the warm heart of Africa.
