The Sibikwa Arts Centre will be hosting their annual Saturday Arts Academy (SAA) Open Day this weekend.
The open day, which is set to take place on the 25th of January 2020, from 09h00 to 14h00, will give parents, guardians and learners the opportunity to meet Sibikwa’s dedicated and qualified teachers and management, to find out what the arts centre has to offer and view Sibikwa’s beautiful facilities.
Designated as a Centre of Excellence by the Department of Sports, Arts & Culture, Sibikwa is South Africa’s foremost multi-disciplinary arts centre, demonstrating the connection between the arts and community development; identity and nation-building.
Established in 1995, the SAA is a cornerstone project of Sibikwa, committed to promoting arts education and community development.
The Saturday Arts Academy programme offers training in the disciplines of:
- Dance – contemporary, hip-hop, traditional and gumboot)
- Drama
- Visual arts – for primary school learners only
- Music – drumming, marimba, recorders and music theory
- Exploring reading – for primary school learners only and
- Script reading – for seniors only.
Classes are held over 37 Saturdays each year, from 8h30 to 17h30. Space for registration is limited and only available for learners 6 – 8 years old (6 places available); 14 – 15 years old (8 places available); 16 – 24 years old (11 places available).
Classes for learners aged 9 -11 and 12 – 13 are full and registrations for these age groups are closed. Parents and guardians are encouraged to register their children as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
Food and refreshments will be on sale on the day.
