In celebration of the newly relaxed Covid-19 restrictions the Sandstone Heritage Trust is running a two day Cherry Steam Train Festival just north of Ficksburg in the Free State.
While the the Ficksburg Cherry Festival has not been confirmed for 2021 due to the Covid 19 pandemic several local establishments along with the Sandstone Heritage Trust Estate will be open over the weekend of Friday19th November and Saturday 20th November.
The Cherry Steam Train Festival is set to thrill all ages and is a magical, fun getaway for the entire family. Guests can expect narrow gauge steam trains, restored heritage transport and farming equipment and magnificent vistas of mountains.
Sandstone will be offering steam train and ox wagon rides, and opportunities to view the Sandstone Heritage collection. One of the many highlights of the event will include Sandstone’s latest restored steam locomotive, the 1968 Johannesburg built NGG16A number 155, which will haul trains for the first time in 21 years.
Entrance is R250 for adults and R140 for children under 12. Trains will run from 10h00 on Friday 19th and from 10h00 on Saturday 21st November 2021.
Strict Covid 19 protocols will be followed, and no one will be admitted if not wearing a mask. A screened temperature over 37 degrees will result in non-admittance together with other members of the party wishing to attend the Festival. Good news, 2000 visitors will be allowed per day.
