SAA Senior Purser and crew member Esme Eloff tells us what she loves about her job.

Chose This Career Because…

When I started at SAA as a customer service agent in 1992, being at the airport and getting in contact with our cabin crew planted the seed for me, and felt I needed to explore more.

I was, and still am, very fortunate that this amazing opportunity was offered to me.

I love the flexibility of the working hours, exploring different countries, cultures and yes, getting to see the world, not only from my eyes but also from the eyes of my family and friends who have had the onceinalifetime chance to travel with me.

What I Love Most About The Job Is…

There are many aspects of this job that I truly love. One of them is to aim to be a good ambassador for South Africa and SAA.

Another is having the opportunity to make a difference in somebodys life I try not to forget that people travel for different reasons.

We get exposed to hundreds of people daily and what a great place to upskill ones people skills.

Most Memorable Moment On Board

This is a difficult one because I aim to make most flights memorable, not only for myself but also for my team and for our guests.

The one that stands out for me was Toulouse when I was chosen as one of the crew to take delivery of our Airbus 330-200.

It was a proud moment for SAA, flying from Toulouse into London airspace to Cape Town where we met the President. Once we had landed, we were welcomed with a water salute. What an honour it was.

When I Am Not Flying, I…

… enjoy spending time at home with my husband, friends and family. I also do aviation training in Safety and Emergency Procedures, and work as a cabin designated examiner for the South African Civil Aviation Authority.

I started a charity campaign that flight crew participate in, and we aim to do outreaches where needed. I am also a big supporter for Cancervive, where my sister is active

Cancervive is a unique and dynamic cancer organisation that communicates to audiences with means beyond words.

Through the use of performing arts, music, poetry, dance and storytelling, they are able to reach people of all backgrounds, regardless of language. The Cancervive project has been hailed as one of the most dynamic cancer awareness campaigns in the world.

Favourite International Destination

I will most definitely say Germany, I love the people and the effectiveness. However, I do have favourite things to do and see in most of our destinations.
