Bain’s Cape Mountain Whisky
Bain’s Cape Mountain Whisky is proudly South African and has twice been awarded as the World’s Best Grain Whisky at the World Whiskies Awards.
A gem, the whisky is made at the James Sedgwick Distillery in Wellington, the only commercial whisky distillery in Africa.
Made from 100% South African grain, the whisky is quite uniquely double matured – first for three years in casks previously used for the maturation of Bourbon and then revatted into a fresh set of ex-Bourbon casks for a further two years.
The whisky is a delicious combination of floral, banana, honey, toasted hazelnuts and toffee aromas and by adding a splash of water the whisky opens up to include wood, vanilla and spice.
Beautifully balanced vanilla, cocoa butter and light spices from the oak casks lead to a warm mouth-feel and long, smooth finish.
For those of you who enjoy cooking up a storm, it’s worth noting that Bain’s is absolutely gorgeous when served with seared Salmon, vegetarian stir-fry, sticky pork-ribs, Cape Malay curry, milk tart and vanilla fudge.
