Beautiful Travel by Lungi

Travel is beautiful… but how do you stay beautiful when you’re catching red eye flights, spending hours in transit, losing sleep and out of your routine?

Well, we ask the experts – beautiful people who travel frequently (including some of the most well-known South African beauty bloggers and celebs) about how to travel in style, as well as their beauty product recommendations, favourite travel fragrances and in-flight beauty routines in our new Beautiful Travel series

Today it’s the turn of Lungi, a Durban based content creator who runs a lifestyle blog,, as a side hustle and creative outlet. Her blog covers topics such as beauty, travel (Africa and beyond), food and so much more!

During the day she works full time as a chemical engineer in the water sector, and the rest of her time is filled with being a mom to a very busy 22 month old daughter, Mpilo!

How frequently do you travel?

In 2018, I travelled to 7 international destinations and 5 domestic trips

What is your favourite travel destination?

I love the major European cities during summer (Barcelona, Paris, Rome)

What is your in-flight beauty routine?

I focus on keeping my skin hydrated during a flight because the air is quite dry. I start off by cleaning my face using a makeup wipe, I then use a hydrating sheet mask and leave it on my skin for approximately 20 minutes. I follow on with a hydrating serum, a moisturiser and either an oil or a sleeping mask. As a last step I apply lip balm to keep my lips moisturised.

What are your most essential in-flight beauty products?

Any products that are hydrating to the skin: serums and masks are good choices and of course a lip balm.

Tell us your essential beauty products and why you pack them first.

Sunscreen – protecting my skin from the sun is my #1 priority because I’m currently dealing with hyperpigmentation

Lip gloss – For those days where I don’t want to wear a lot of makeup, I always put on a lip gloss just to add some sparkle

Makeup remover – I put a lot of focus on good evening skincare to restore my skin from being exposed to the elements during the day and the first step of my evening skincare routine is removing my makeup.

What is your favourite travel fragrance?

Miss Dior – Absolutely Blooming

What beauty essentials do you pick up in duty free or at your destination?

When I’m travelling I love buying beauty products that aren’t available in South Africa. On my last trip I picked up the L’oreal Hydra Genius Moisturiser and the Banila Co Clean it Zero makeup remover.

Where will you be travelling this year?

I have 3 trips coming up in the next 2 months: a week and a half in Cape Town for work, Australia with my best friend and a work trip to Côte d’Ivoire.
