Carol Mkhize is a Durban based actress and model with a passion for holistic health and fitness. Today we chat to her about her beautiful travels…
How frequently do you travel?
Not as often as I would like to. I do about 1-2 international trips a year and in between my husband and I try escape to as often as we can locally. We make a wish list at the beginning of each year consisting of where we want to go but ultimately his work schedule decides.
What is your favourite travel destination?
It’s hard to isolate just one, I have so many. At best I can do a top 3. My top 3 would be Bali, Monaco and Los Angeles.
What is your in-flight beauty routine?
Traveling dries out my skin, so I try to keep my skin hydrated. I cleanse my face with face wipes and I love using hydrating masks too. I use a face mist when I feel like my skin is drying out and eye drops when my eyes are irritated. Apart from a bit of concealer I don’t wear any make up when I travel.
What are your most essential in-flight beauty products?
Staying hydrated and getting a good rest is the most important beauty essential for me when traveling. Lots of water, a hydrating face & eye cream (Estee Lauder) and a decent lip balm (Elizabeth Arden 8-hour cream). My eye mask, ear plugs and neck pillow ensure that I am comfortable and well rested on flights. On really long flights, herbal sleep drops are a must for me or a really good glass of wine 😉
My toiletry bag will have
- Pampers Sensitive Wipes – I use these to freshen up and clean my face during flights.
- My toothbrush, fluoride free toothpaste & floss, I’m certain it’s pretty obvious why I would need these 😉
- Estee Lauder Advance Night Repair Cream – it keeps my skin well hydrated.
- MAC Long Wear Concealer and Mascara – I usually put some on when I’m about to reach my destination so that I don’t look tired.
- Perfume and deodorant
What is your favourite travel fragrance?
Versace Dylan Blue
What beauty essentials do you pick up in duty-free or at your destination?
I love collecting perfume or buying fragrances that will remind me of places I’ve travelled to.
Where will you be traveling to this year?
We have Morocco, Italy and Mexico on our International travel wish list. I am also looking into exploring South Africa more with family and friends this year, starting with Mpumalanga.
