Run the Wild Coast

South African trail-running event specialists, Wildrunner, host the annual Wildcoast Wildrun along the Eastern Cape’s beautiful Wild Coast.

Starting at Kei Mouth and ending at Hole-in-the-Wall, Eastern Cape, the three-day trek will see participants tackle the 112 km trail while enjoying some of the country’s most scenic views. With a choice between a more serious, competitive race and a journey for social runners, the adventure is diverse. The daily distances are 44km, 35km and 34km.

Each day we follow a general route northwards, but runners have the freedom to choose their own path, keeping the sea on their right and signing in at the checkpoints,” explains race organiser Owen Middleton.

“The terrain includes beach running, narrow cattle trails and open grasslands, scrambling over rocks off the beaches and up onto the headlands, and some Jeep tracks. With river mouth crossings and varying tides, runners have to be able to swim to participate in the event.”

Participants will spend the nights in local seaside hotels, where they can enjoy the renowned Wild Coast buffets and optional daily massages. The experience is limited to 80 entrants per departure so be sure to book your spot.
