Top 10: Most Instagrammed Beaches in the World

TravelSupermarket, a UK-based travel booking comparison site, conducted research on the most Instagrammed beaches around the world via a hashtag analysis. The results saw 25 incredible beaches making the list, from Hawaii’s Lanikai Beach to South Africa’s very own Boulders Beach.

At the top of the list is Whitehaven Beach in Australia – a 7 km stretch of white sand along Whitsunday Island. Coming in at second place is Lanikai Beach which is on the coast of Oahu in Hawaii with arguably the most famous Bermuda beach, Horseshoe Bay in third position.

In a study conducted by Schofields – a UK-based provider of holiday rental home insurance looked into the importance of how ‘instagrammable’ a destination is, and found that over 40% of the 1000 young adults under the age of 33 surveyed considered it a factor when considering which holiday destination to visit.

This however is not due to the FOMO-inducing social media culture of showing off holiday snaps by millennials, but rather showed that “plenty of Instagram likes are an indication that a destination is simply visually pleasing and desirable,” according to a Forbes article on the impact of Instagram likes on a destination’s competitiveness when millennials look to book a holiday.
