Review: A Visit to Victoria Falls Safari Lodge, Zimbabwe

Date:

Offering magnificent views of wildlife and bushveld, the Victoria Falls Safari Lodge has 72 rooms ranging from standard to suites. While you won’t be spending most of your time indoors, they’re all well appointed with tea and coffee stations, mosquito nets and a private balcony.

Beautifully appointed rooms at Victoria Falls Safari Lodge

A watering hole attracting an array of wildlife will keep you entertained all day, either from the privacy of your room or the pool and viewing deck. The views are better during the evening, when the animals (including elephants and hyenas) venture very close to the lodge. During the day, the Buffalo Bar is a hive of activity and has its own viewing area.

A popular attraction at the lodge is the Vulture Culture experience, which – in line with the establishment’s conservation ethics – involves feeding leftover meat from the restaurants to these birds. They can be seen circling overhead as soon as the food’s thrown into the bush. Once it’s quiet, they swoop down in a cloud of dust and feathers and devour the meat within minutes.

The lodge’s amenities include free wifi, a spa, TV lounge with satellite link and an Internet lounge. I very much enjoyed the hourly complimentary shuttle service to Victoria Falls and the adjacent town, so you can explore both at your leisure.

No stay at the Victoria Falls Safari Lodge would be complete without an evening at The Boma – Place of Eating. Indulge in an array of sumptuous traditional and continental dishes, traditional singing and dancing, as well as traditional beer. You can even have your fortune told by a traditional healer, throwing the bones.

Victoria Falls is home to incredible wildlife
