The easily accessible premier reserve is in a malaria-free area, a mere two-and-a-half-hour drive or a 45-minute flight from Johannesburg into one of the reserve’s two airstrips.

There are five luxurious tented-safari suites, providing panoramic views of the crystal-clear Sterkstroom River and Waterberg sandstone cliffs. It is a vista you can also enjoy from deck and bar area of the main lodge.

Fairlawns Boutique Hotel and Spa

The establishment has recently renovated its Balinese-style spa, and its gardens now include a bamboo forest.

Boasting a range of therapies and signature Asian-inspired treatments, the spa with its tranquil lounges, heated pool, and beautiful dining area are all situated in the new gardens. It is a perfect space to escape from the busy city life.

The LUX* North Male Atoll

Maldives

When it comes to island paradises, it is tough to beat the picture-perfect white sand beaches and clear, turquoise tropical waters of the Maldives.

Just a short transfer from Malé via a luxury speedboat or seaplane, this exclusive resort is situated on its own island.

Coming ashore, your first impressions will be the coconut palms, forming a gentle arch on the pathway leading to the beach and magnificent villas, literally on the water.

There are 67 of these double-story residences in the resort, all designed by the renowned Singaporean design group Miaja. Relax at the resort’s two large pools, take a trip on a private yacht, or do some tai chi and yoga if you want to recharge.

If, however, it is excitement and exercise you are after, there is a variety high-adrenaline water sports, along with tennis and beach volleyball courts.
